It's official...I am going to C7. Called my wonderful travel agent Donna
today, and not only did she get me on the same flight as Laura, she
got me in the seat next to her! We'll be staying at the Warwick with
some other people. We feel bad, because they'll be rooming with three
redheads who know each other very well. It will be like living in the
sorority house from hell!
I also
bought my ticket to the actual con...$70!!! YOW!

Today was extremely busy. I designed a gown for the Cyber Faerie Ball
("How does that go together?" Adrian asked me...I didn't have
an answer for him), and since I have no time to sew it myself, the seamstress
who sewed our bridesmaid dresses for Jen's wedding is going to do it
for me. I dropped a bundle on iridescent chiffon at JoAnn and Big Y
Yardage (which is an awesome place to find just about any type of fabric).
I am thinking
of having Fifi Mahony's do up a wig for me, but I'm wondering if there
is enough time.

2001
Decided not to have Fifi Mahony's do up a wig for me. Time is limited,
plus I could create some hairpieces myself for a fraction of the price.
So at some point, I will need to schlep over to Cassy's Wigs to buy
some bags of hair. Need to wait until after my appointment with Adolfo
so that I can get a decent match on the shade.
I have
to laugh, because I think about last year, before C6, when I was a whirling
dervish trying to get together some cool outfits, find the right shoes,
etc. I am so much more laid back this year. The ball gown is the only
new item of clothing I am spending money on.
I have
assembled a list of what I am taking. Making a checklist helped
enormously last year, especially when repacking. With all the luggage
I took with me to Seattle and all the clothes, wigs, jewelry and makeup,
it is almost miraculous that everything made it back. I credit the checklist
with this, completely.

Adolfo trimmed and coloured my hair today. No more roots! Actually,
he trimmed a bit more than I would have liked, but it was to get rid
of damaged hair. I have been trying to grow my hair out for over two
years now, and it's been slow going.
Went to
Maria's for a fitting afterward. Some trucker guy in a semi was honking
and waving at me on the freeway. It was kind of random, but it's also
par for the course. You'd think people had never seen a redhead in a
convertible. Anyway, at Maria's, we did some troubleshooting on the
dress. The skirt wasn't quite full enough, so Maria will fix it. I think
it's going to look pretty good...in kind of a "bad fairy"
sort of way.
There was
a thread on a.g.f about "how to spot me at C7." Here's my
contribution:
*HOW
TO SPOT ÉILIS*
Rather tall, curvy chick who has dark red hair that's on the auburn
side (although she often wears wigs and falls, so keep a sharp eye out!).
Wears a claddagh on her right hand, heart turned in. Will be wearing
a skirt or a dress...never pants and certainly not shorts! Has tattoos
on her left ankle (heart with wings), right shoulder (kanji symbol for
love) and lower back (Celtic knot). Frequently will be with two other
redheads from California, Laura and FaerieEm. Used to be known as iluminaria,
so if you knew iluminaria, you know Éilis.
*ÉILIS'
NATURE*
Perky teachergoth who loves good craic, good music, good tea, a good
smoke, and rude jokes. Enjoys pushing the envelope. Often wears wigs
and falls. Loves kitsch and is not above shakin' it to cheesy pop music
or getting up and making an arse of herself doing karaoke. Survived
a Britney Spears concert last year (while wearing fetish regalia, no
less!).
*THE
REAL ÉILIS*
Is a wild redhead who sees having ADHD as an attribute. Likes to design
stuff and have good times with her mates. Also likes to be mellow. Enjoys
people and making new friends. Likes U2, Harleys, cats, shoes, massages,
trifle, guacamole, pre-Raphaelite art, gentlemen, British people (especially
her boyfriend), and lying in. Éilis makes no apologies for her eclectic
tastes.
*COMMON
REACTIONS TO ÉILIS*
-- "you're a teacher? that's so CUTE!"
-- "you have a beautiful smile!"
-- "that is a beautiful name"
-- "boy, you really like U2, don't you?"
*WHAT
NOT TO SAY TO ÉILIS*
-- "you're a teacher? that's so CUTE!"
-- "heywhat'syernamec'mere" <- guys, this is NOT a good pickup line!
-- "what's your name? Eyelash?"
-- "you like U2? they SUCK! you can't be goth and like U2!"
*WHAT
ÉILIS WISHES PEOPLE WOULD SAY*
-- "hi, Éilis!"
-- "let's go dance!"
-- "would you like a martini/amaretto sour?" -- "may i give you a shoulder
massage?"
-- "I like U2 as well...which shows did you see?"

Said goodbye to Adrian today, which was sad. He's on a business trip
all week, and I fly out to C7 before he returns, so it will be a week
and a half before we see each other again. To some people, that may
not seem like a big deal, but it kinda is.
Laura and
I went to the mall to do some final shopping. I bought a pair of shoes
to go with my ball gown. Laura bought a PVC bodice that looks absolutely
faboo on her. She's going to wear it with her tulle skirt. We also bought
some colouring shampoo for Laura at a beauty supply. Then we hit up
Dome Liquor.
Dome Liquor
has got to be the world's greatest liquor store...they have everything!
We don't want to pay NYC rates for booze, so we stocked up for BYOB.
Butter shots, apple Pucker, vodka...I'm not really sure what all we
got, but we dropped $72 on it! hehehe

Today is Laundry Day. All my washable stuff is going to be visiting
the washer and then going into the suitcase. Fun!
Maria called,
and my gown is ready for its final fitting and pick-up, so I'm going
in tomorrow.

Someone posted a weather forecast to C7rescue, and wouldn't you know?
THUNDERSTORMS PREDICTED ALL WEEKEND! And it seems that the C7 dates
are the *only* thunderstorm days in the next 10. All the other days
are scattered showers or partly cloudy.
grrrrrr...I
hate being wet when I'm all dressed up.
So now
I need to hunt down a nice umbrella that I can live with. Maybe hit
up the Hello Kitty shop up the street or go to a novelty store and find
the tackiest most godawful umbrella I can. I love kitsch. Or I could
revamp that black umbrella I have, spruce it up with some lace or something.
I'm not really a lacy goth tho...UV reactive tape, perhaps?
Ohhhh...just
had a thought. Adrian heads to Boston today, which is just as humid
as NYC. Adrian hates humidity. Poor guy!

Yay! Picked up the dress, and it's divine. I decided not to wear the
petticoat with it...makes it entirely too foofy, and the dress rocks
enough without it. Besides...I need the room in my suitcase for all
those shoes and boots I'm bringing along!
Went to
the hair shop yesterday and found some AWESOME ultra spring thingies.
I want to get some, but they didn't have any in the color that matches
my hair. I left the hair shop with a load of loose hair to be used as
falls and hairpieces and enough bobbypins to tether a zeppelin. Hope
I can find someone who can do quick DIY extensions on the front part
of my hair at C7. If this describes you and you're willing, please email
me. I just need two sections on the front done. I can attempt to
do it myself, but I'm sure it will come out looking really konky.
I'm a bit
apprehensive about C7, because so many people are mad about how it's
been organised. I just hope a lot of people are there who want to hang
out with people they don't know well...if people stay in cliques, it
undermines the whole point of Convergence.
Laura and
I announced a karaoke night on BPC and CorpGoth. If you wanna go, here's
the lowdown:
New
Tokyo 18
8 pm - 4 am (WOO HOO!)
113 East 18th Street
(between Park Ave and Irving Place)
$5.00 cover
$12.00 minimum drink fee (like any of us will have any trouble meeting
THAT!)
tax + 20% per person gratuity
Click
on "New Tokyo 18" to access the karaoke site. The list of the 15 most
popular karaoke songs is pretty special. "Baby Got Back"....yee haw!
We will meet in the lobby of the Warwick Hotel at 9:30 pm and trek
down to the joint together. Look for two wild and crazy redheads from
California, and feel free to go all-out in terms of attire...we are!
